001; Dear Father
Dear Father,
As you will well know, the Quidditch Try-Outs for the Slytherin team went ahead earlier this evening. Rabastan Lestrange, younger brother of Rodolphus Lestrange, made Chaser. The other positions were filled without difficulty.
I have been considering tonight my own position, not so much on the Quidditch pitch but as an only child. Rodolphus clearly cares a great deal for his younger brother and offers him protection and advise. On occasions, I have felt something of a jealousy at not having a younger sibling of my own. However tonight I also spoke with Regulus; the son of Orion Black and his wife. Regulus' own feelings towards his brother are of course different due to the family situation (and it is not that I wish to be discussing the problems of other families, not least the Ancient and Noble House of Black) but I have considered that perhaps, if I were to have a younger sibling, they would not understand the things we must do to benefit the family, because of their age. And I would not like for my younger sibling to curse my name or make a scene in public that would cause embarrassment.
Even Rabastan, I have noticed, a devoted younger brother if ever there was one, often does not give Rodolphus the respect he deserves, nor does Rabastan necessarily understand all of his brother's motivations and actions. Perhaps I am actually better off without a younger sibling, or indeed an older one.
Tomorrow we are to have our first team-practise. I hope by then the Lestranges have settled their differences.
I also spent some time earlier this evening talking to Miss Narcissa Black. She is amost charming and beautiful woman of whom you would approve.
